WELCOME TO BERLIN Midsummer Night Music Berlin has a way of making me feel personally connected to the arts: A few months ago, dozens of professional and amateur musicians from International museum Friedrichshain got on their balconies to show off permanent exhibition their musical talent before an audience of passersby, while last April, many bands and soloists organized open daily: the "Singing Wohnzimmer" (literally, "singing living rooms") event, consisting of mon - sat 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. 40 free concerts held in the artists' homes on a first-come-first-served basis. This sun + holidays 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. month's musical events will not be as intimate, but they still capture the "Berlin (24th December closed) factor," combining innovative ideas and high quality with a familiar flavor that we can all relate to. Potsdamer Platz entrance: Leipziger Platz 7 The Karneval der Kulturen (p.10-12), taking place on 6–8 June, celebrates the city's multicultural personality with a joyous parade in the heart of Kreuzberg, while the summer solstice means music in every corner of the city for the International Fête de la Musique (p. 12). This month also marks the centennial of the outbreak of WWI, and Berlin has joined the rest of Europe in commemorating this world-changing event with exhibitions in most of the city's museums.
